There has been rumors, smack-talking and opening talks about a Mayweather-McGregor fight. Today, both Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor announced via social media that a fight has been set for August 26.

Mayweather, an undefeated champion in five weight classes, announced that he will return to the ring after a 23 month retirement to face Conor McGregor, the UFC superstar, on August 26 in Las Vegas at either the MGM Grand Garden Arena or the T-Mobile Arena.

Minutes earlier, McGregor sent out a simple two line statement on Twitter, with a picture of Floyd Mayweather Sr. instead of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

McGregor holds a record of 21-3, while Mayweather holds an unblemished record of 49-0. Mayweather is clearly the favorite as this fight is an opportunity for both to make huge money. Both fighters have huge personalities and are the best at trash talking. Both went back and forth on social media at each other about a possible fight, but to get a deal done was huge in itself.  A boxing champion versus an MMA-style champion will have many people ordering the. Pay-per-view, which will be broadcast on Showtime.
